Job description

Grafton Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant for our client based in Dublin 22.

The Role

Duties will include:

  • Preparation of financial reports, budgets and rolling forecasts
  • Preparation and review of long term cashflow forecasts
  • Preparation and review of both financial and operational key performance indicators in dashboard format
  • Analyse actual performance vs budget providing full commentary where appropriate
  • Assist the Financial Controller with other financial analysis when required such as calculation of profitability by project, by engineer, by company.
  • Maintain accuracy of the financial system of record by managing a robust monthly close process, producing full income statement; statement of financial position and statement of cashflows
  • Produce timely and accurate month end reporting packs to management;
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations with full supporting schedules on a monthly basis to be reviewed with the Finance Director, including maintenance of fixed asset register and intercompany reconciliations
  • Provide variance analysis, commentary and insight on financial results and present these results to management as required;
  • Produce Bank Reconciliations on a weekly basis;
  • Perform Treasury Management and weekly cash reviews;
  • Management of the Fixed Asset Register and analysis of YTD Capital Expenditure;
  • Review the financial expenditure within the company and identify ways to create cost efficiencies;
  • Produce the monthly/bi-monthly PAYE/PRSI, VAT, VIES and CSO Returns for the business;
  • Review all prepayments and accruals at month end;
  • Posting of the monthly payroll journal and reconciliation of the payroll control accounts;
  • Create efficiencies through continuous improvement of processes;.
  • Assist with the preparation of year end statutory accounts and liaise with all external parties such as company auditors, tax advisors, HMRC, Irish Revenue
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects and tasks as they arise;
  • Maintain and cultivate excellent relationships with all stakeholders of the business including clients, employees, suppliers, auditors and bankers;
  • Implement and maintain sound financial controls, policies and procedures in line with the company financial control and procedure manual
  • Manage monthly stocktake


  • Part Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Strong Microsoft Excel Skills Essential
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar finance role
  • Accounting software experience ideally have previous experience with Accounts IQ
  • Strong commercial/business acumen and analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability and confidence to work on own initiative to strict deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and good communication skills
  • A flexible and helpful approach in all aspects of the role
  • Previous exposure to the UK Market/multiple currencies is an advantage
