Job Description

Band 2 Pharmacy Support Worker required on a temporary basis based in Belfast City Hospital.

Role: Band 2 Pharmacy Support Worker

Rate of Pay: £8.66 per hour

Location: Belfast City Hospital

Hours: 37.5 hours

Duration: 31/12/2019

Job Summary/Main Purpose

The person appointed will be a member of a team providing the pharmaceutical service in the Belfast Trust. He/she will be managed by the Pharmacist/ Technician in charge of distribution or his/her deputy.

Pharmacy support staff are primarily involved in the delivery and collection of pharmaceuticals including medical gas cylinders and pharmacy store duties.

He/she will be required to ensure all activity is carried out safely, effectively, efficiently and courteously, and relevant documentation is maintained and that all are updated.

Main duties/Responsibilities:

1.Collection and delivery of pharmaceuticals and post.

2. Receiving, emptying and sorting of the contents of incoming ward/department pharmacy boxes.

3.Packing of ward/department pharmacy boxes with completed orders and storing safely for delivery.

4.Collection and disposal of debris and rubbish and pharmaceutical waste and maintain working areas free of waste materials.

5.Delivery of medical gas cylinders to wards and departments and returning empty cylinders to the cylinder store

6.Delivery of pharmaceuticals including prescriptions and all completed work from the dispensary section

7.Maintaining appropriate stock levels in a neat, clean and orderly manner in accordance with the principles of good stock management.

8.Participating in the delivery of ward top-ups and intravenous fluids.

9.Assist in the receipt of pharmacy deliveries and the safe and secure storage of pharmaceuticals.

10.Assist other members of the pharmacy team in ensuring the storage environment is correct for the products.

11.Assist other members of the pharmacy team in ensuring stock is kept within expiry dates, consistent with pharmacy procedures.

12.Computer input and maintenance of records.

13.Participating in staff training.

14.Assisting in the maintenance of equipment and preparation of pharmaceuticals and their inspection.

15.Processing returns from wards and departments daily.

16.Conducting oneself in an appropriate and courteous manner and remain so at all times, and maintain required standards of appearance and dress.

17.Participating in weekend and statutory holiday rota.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Three GCSE's at grade A - C to include English Language

or

2 years experience in a warehouse / store environment demonstrating ability in storage and movement of stock
