Job description

Grafton Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Financial Accountant for our client based in Dublin City Centre. This role will be a contract role for 10 months.

Our client a public sector body based in Dublin City Centre are looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join their team.

The Role:

  • Preparation of monthly drawdown request
  • Preparation and ongoing review of monthly management reports for SMT ensuring these are fit for purpose
  • Management of monthly reporting pack
  • Management and preparation of Tax returns including VAT, RCT, Withholding Tax and P30
  • Management of month end process including preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and co-ordination of same across wider team
  • Management of Commitments schedules ensuring accurate reporting of same and ensuring amounts are in line with contractual agreements
  • Review monthly payroll and validate all payroll deductions (PAYE, ASC, PRSI, pension contribution, etc)
  • Validate annual pension entitlement figures prior to the production of pension benefit statements
  • Review requests for grant payments to ensure sufficient financial documentation has been provided to recommend payment
  • Lead and/or assist the co-ordination of Internal audits and implementation of audit findings
  • Input into the co-ordination and preparation of year-end financial statements and preparation of year end audit file for the C&AG
  • Assist with the preparation and sign-off of annual returns under European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) ensuring amounts agree to supporting documentation
  • Review of financial aspects of Requests for Tender (RFT) prior to publishing
  • Review of financial aspects of tenders received ensuring allocation of marks are in line with published guidelines
  • Input into the preparation of the annual budget and forecast and formal submission to DCCAE
  • Identification of areas for systems and process improvements; and ensuring all policies and procedures are kept up to date
  • Work closely with programmatic team and influence best practise to aid funds being expensed effectively and in line with good governance
  • Active participation in Finance & Corporate Services Department supporting other programmes of work as required


  • Fully accredited qualification in Accountancy with a minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Well-developed IT skills including familiarity with integrated Financial Management Systems
  • Demonstrated payroll and pension experience, including ability to calculate payroll deductions (including income tax), pension contributions and entitlements
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Good knowledge of public sector and taxation legislation relevant to same
  • Experience of ensuring compliance to financial controls and procedures
  • Track record of problem-solving following analysis of relevant data
  • Good understanding of accounting packages
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Technical expertise
  • Ability to influence others to ensure strong governance policies are adopted
