Job description

Grafton are currently recruiting for 4 Multiskilled Maintenance Crafts Persons (Mechanical)

Working within the Trust's Estates Service Team, the purpose of the Multi-skilled Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical) role, is to carry out a wide range of planned and unplanned tasks, ensuring the safe, effective and economic installation and maintenance of the Trust's engineering systems and physical assets. The jobholder will be expected to:

  • Carry out a wide range of planned and unplanned mechanical and plumbing maintenance tasks in a safe, effective and economic manner.
  • Perform the role 'Competent Person' in relation to a range of specialist engineering systems as defined by the Health Technical Memoranda.
  • Participate in the Trust's Labour Management Scheme and have the ability to use a range of computer based systems and developing technologies.
  • Have the aptitude to follow written instructions, guidance, drawings and specifications with the minimum of supervision.
  • Carry out his/her work in a diligent and timely manner.
  • Participate in a range of training and development activities, and pass such knowledge and skills onto others.
  • Appropriate level of cross-trade flexibility.
  • Work across all areas of the Trust, travelling in a Trust supplied vehicle or his/her own transport.
  • Given the 24/7 nature of health and social care the post holder will be required to participate in any on call service that becomes a feature of this role in the future (additional remuneration applies).
  • If and when required, the jobholder will be expected to work regular, planned or unplanned overtime or shift working - sometimes at short notice (additional remuneration applies).

Experience Required

Working knowledge and experience in the examination and maintenance of LPHW heating plant, distribution and control systems.

Working knowledge and experience in the examination and maintenance of ventilation and air-conditioning plant and systems.

Working knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of industrial

and/or

Commercial hot and cold water plant and plumbing distribution systems.

Working knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of sanitary ware, tap and shower assemblies and thermostatic mixing devices.

Working knowledge and experience in maintenance of foul and storm internal/ external drainage systems.

Working knowledge and experience in operation and maintenance building management systems and conventional control systems including fault finding.

Working knowledge and experience of undertaking tasks of other engineering trade groups.

Qualifications

Must have completed a formal apprenticeship as a Mechanical/Maintenance Fitter or Plumber.

In addition to his/her apprenticeship, the applicant must hold a relevant qualification at QCF or NQF Level 3 (or higher) together with a minimum of two years post apprenticeship experience (see above for definition of experience) OR in addition to his/her apprenticeship, the applicant must hold a relevant qualification at QCF or NQF Level 2 (or higher) together with a minimum of five years post apprenticeship experience (see above for definition of experience).

Other

Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.

Desirable Criteria

Working knowledge and experience in the examination and maintenance of steam raising plant, distribution and control systems.

Working knowledge and experience in the installation and maintenance of automated manufacturing or process engineering systems, (e.g. laundry or catering).

Working knowledge and experience of the examination and maintenance of other pressure systems.

Working knowledge and experience of bench fitting and machine tool practices and operations.

Working knowledge and experience of welding procedures and practices using oxygen/acetylene and electric welding equipment.

Working knowledge and experience in maintenance of medical gas pipeline plant and systems.
