Job Title: Senior Controller

The Client: Grafton Recruitment is a specialist in the provision of temporary and permanent staffing solutions to clients nationwide. We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Controller in the Market Operations Function in Dublin for an 11 month contract, This position is for an immediate start, and will be based in Dublin.

Our client is a leading Irish energy business, dedicated to the provision of transmission and market services for the benefit of electricity consumers, committed to delivering high quality services to all customers, including generators, suppliers and consumers, across the high voltage electricity system and via the efficient operation of the wholesale power market. It puts in place the grid infrastructure needed to support competition in energy, to promote economic growth, to facilitate more renewable energy, and to provide essential services.

Our client holds licences as the independent electricity Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Market Operator (MO) in the wholesale trading system in Ireland, and is the owner of the System Operator Northern Ireland (SONI Ltd), the licensed TSO and market operator in Northern Ireland. The Single Electricity Market Operator (SEMO) is part of the Group, and operates the Single Electricity Market on the island of Ireland.

The Role: The Market Operations Directorate is responsible for operating the Legacy Single Electricity Market (Legacy SEM) and the new European Integrated SEM across the island of Ireland (SEM). The directorate developed and executed the new market integration strategy which is aligned with priorities at a European level.

Front Office - Overview

The Front Office team is responsible for both Legacy SEM and the new SEM markets. The activities that the team carries out fall under a range of functional areas including:

  • Settlement
    * Credit Risk Management
    * Funds Transfer
    * Registration and Operational Customer Service
    * Capacity Market Qualification and Auction
    * Management of Formal Queries
    * Management of Disputes
    * Stakeholder Engagement (internal and external)

Each functional area has specific obligations that need to be completed according to pre determined timelines. These deadlines can be daily, weekly, monthly etc. therefore the team works in a fast paced environment. Staff are based in Dublin and Belfast and travel between the two offices will be required. The Front Office, team is divided into the functional areas as listed above. The current team structure is such that controllers report on daily tasks and obligations to the Senior Controller. The work conducted by the team is very process driven and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail is expected of the Controllers.

Reporting to: Manager, Front Office, Market Operations

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Controller is responsible for ensuring these tasks are completed, for their designated functional area, to a high standard and within the timelines as set out by the Trading and Settlement Codes, SEMOpx rules and Capacity Market rules.

The environment is fast paced and challenging however, a supportive team environment and open approach to learning ensure that staff learn quickly and on-the-job.

Tasks that the Senior Controller would carry out include rota management, assignment of workload, reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly etc.), audit management, stakeholder engagement, issue management/trouble shooting and staff training.

There are many interactions with customers, stakeholders and internal staff where communication and interpersonal skills are required. The Market Operations team deal with Suppliers, Generators, Meter Data Providers, Interconnector Administrators and many more stakeholders; a high level of customer service is expected at all times.

Our Front Office team is looking for a focused, dedicated, team player who will be up to the challenge of running a functional area independently, while seamlessly engaging with the wider team. Excellent communication skills and critical thinking are essential to the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:
* Up to 3 years' experience in administrative/business related role.
* Demonstrable track record of establishing and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent time management and coordination skills.
* Effective communicator - expressing information and ideas to others in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
* Experience in presenting to large groups.
* Numeracy and analytical skills.
* A natural attention to detail and accuracy.
* A high level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications.

Desirable:
* Third level qualification or equivalent in a business/IT related subject.
