Job Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Operate specialist vehicles in undertaking work of a horticultural nature and grounds maintenance to include the following:

  • Artificial surfaces
  • Parks
  • Playing fields
  • Golf courses

Other open spaces, ensuring proper road management and traffic control systems are used within work areas.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate and maintain vehicles, tools and equipment required to carry out any of the duties pertaining to the post, ensuring daily safety checks are completed (e.g. JCB, forklift, mini digger, multi lift lorry, tractor and tractor mounted equipment such as flail mowers, gang mowers, hydro mowers, rotary cutters and loaders)

Maintain grounds and horticultural areas to agreed standards, including planting, grass cutting, maintaining pitches/sports areas, tree pruning, hedge trimming, administering fertilisers/spraying pesticides, floral display work, watering hanging baskets etc

Completion of written and computerised records (e.g. in house systems, accidents, defects, safety checks )

Hold keys to allocated buildings, ensuring security of same and public access where appropriate.

Undergo periodic training to improve personal and team performance (e.g. Safeguarding Training)

In the event of inclement weather preventing normal working, undertake such alternative tasks as may be allocated by management.

Assist with duties in Cemeteries Section as and when required.

Contribute to the performance of the Section to ensure key performance indicators are achieved.

Implement adverse weather programme i.e. salt / flooding when required.

Demonstrate a team approach to achieving the objectives of the Section through full flexibility in relation to tasks undertaken.

Provide a high level of internal and external customer service including the preparation, set-up and recovery of equipment.

Communicate fully with your line manager, colleagues and customers in order to enhance the service provided.

Ensure that you comply with the requirements of the Council's Equal Opportunities Policy.

Co-operate with the Council, its officers and staff to enable them, as far as necessary to conform and comply with any duty or requirement imposed as a result of any law which may be in force in relation to health and safety.

  • Forklift Licence (all terrain and counterbalance)

· Hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence and Qualification card.

  • PA6A (spraying pesticides using hand held applicators)
  • PA2A qualified (tractor mounted spraying)
  • Qualified in road management/traffic control
  • Category C1 + E licence
