Job Description

Analytical Chemists required on a temporary basis for a local Public Sector organisation based in Belfast


Role: Analytical Chemist
Rate of Pay: £12.07 per hour
Location: Belfast- may be required to travel to other sites
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Duration: April 2018

Key Activities - Duties & Responsibilities:

Analysis

  • Carry out analysis within the agreed turnaround time to ensure regulatory compliance is met.
  • Carry out analysis to the required quality standards to ensure ISO 17025 requirements are met.
  • Ensure all results are recorded and transcribed accurately onto LIMS
  • Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met.

Resources Management

  • Liaise with the Laboratory Manager to forecast the use of resources.
  • Identify resource requirements, and make recommendations to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Recommend levels of maintenance for equipment used.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Deal with internal and external customers and address their concerns.
  • Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to enhance confidence in the data produced by the client's Laboratories.
  • Communicate with suppliers.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must be able to demonstrate on CV

  1. A third level qualification in Chemistry.
  2. Knowledge and understanding of analytical techniques in chemistry.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of ISO 17025
  4. Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements relevant to laboratories.
  5. Competent in MS Office applications including Word and Excel.
  6. Must be prepared to work flexible hours, weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Desirable Criteria

  1. A practical knowledge of water industry chemical analysis.
  2. At least 1 year's practical experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory.
  3. Membership, (or working towards membership), of a relevant professional body
