Location: County Antrim

Salary: 25k-35k negotiable plus benefits.

Grafton Engineering Division is working in partnership with a leading Manufacturing Business seeking a Health and Safety Officer.

My Client is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join their busy team at their base in County Antrim. The successful applicant will play a key role in driving and enforcing a Health and Safety mind-set throughout the Company. This role will report directly to the Head of Health & Safety, Quality and R&D.

The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement and review of all aspects of Health and Safety including Health and Safety Audits, Risk Assessments, Health and Safety Reports and the ongoing OHAS 18001 Certification.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain company compliance with OHAS18001, ensuring all policies, procedures and processes are regularly reviewed and communicated and up to date with current operational processes and the latest regulations.
  • Participate in the 6 monthly ISO/OHSAS audit certification by our third party certification body.
  • Maintain and conduct detailed audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance with Environmental & Health & Safety system standards.
  • Complete Health & Safety inductions for all new employees and visitors to the site.
  • Complete prompt Near Miss and Accident reports and investigations ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented to reduce or eliminate further risk to employees.
  • Control and maintain all records of accidents, near miss, risk assessments, audits and actions logs for all H&S activities.
  • Ensure regular safety inspections are carried out in all areas including fire drills, working fire alarms, fire extinguishers and fire doors including access to the evacuation area.
  • Carry out H&S audit of company site service vehicles & as necessary support Site Services with H&S issues on Customers Sites.
  • Maintain the Health and Safety training matrix and initiate and lead H&S tool box talks with all relevant departments.
  • Maintain equipment register / maintenance register / lifting equip register (RSA Inspections).
  • General administration duties as required within the department.
  • Identify and deliver Health and Safety training to required roles.

Experience and Criteria:

  • Third level qualification in Engineering, Health and Safety / Quality or other related field
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working in a Health & Safety Officer / Manager role
  • IOSH / NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent knowledge and experience of OHAS18001
  • Experience of handling Health and Safety and accident investigations
  • Experience in carrying out safety inductions and Health and Safety internal audits and risk assessments
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally at all levels within the organisation
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Health and Safety objective planning, control and improvement including working to audited ISO Health and Safety, and Quality standards
  • NEBOSH Diploma
  • Member of Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH)

Location

The Health and Safety Officer will ideally live within the County Antrim and County Down area, however the client is willing to speak with candidates that may be open to travel or even relocation.
