Health & Safety and Environmental Manager

Location: County Antrim

Salary: 35k-40k negotiable plus benefits.

Multi Award Winning Company and the UK's Largest manufacturer and supplier of precast concrete solutions.

Grafton Engineering Division is working in partnership with a leading Manufacturing Business seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.

My Client is looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to work with them in County Antrim. The successful applicant will play a key role in driving and enforcing a Health and Safety mind-set throughout the Company.

The successful candidate will ensure continuous improvement on safety standards, implementing excellent practices for an excellent team. The applicant will be expected to liaise closely with the Group Health, Safety and Environmental Manager and become a safety champion regarding all aspects of Health and Safety.

The applicant will be expected to manage the functions of Health, Safety and Environmental compliance across multiple operational sites and business units across Northern Ireland, including managing a team of 3 direct reports. Playing a key role in shaping and ensuring my Client are a leading example of Health & Safety in their industry.

Health & Safety and Environmental Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the compilation and implementation of SHE procedures, policies and other documentation.
  • To ensure the effective maintenance and improvement of the Integrated Management system in relation to the OHSAS18001 standard.
  • Review general risk assessments throughout the Production plants and on site.
  • Ability to negotiate with statutory authorities.
  • Conduct workplace audits and report findings of non-compliance to responsible managers and Group SHE Manager, making recommendations for improvement as necessary.
  • Coordinate and accompany contractor/end user/client auditors on factory visits.(Action any corrective points).
  • To visit sites when necessary to advise on safe off loading/handling of products.
  • To visit sites to ensure that subcontractors are adhering to all SHE requirements
  • Promote a positive H&S culture whilst recommending new initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Undertake Visible Felt Leadership visits with Senior Managers and Directors
  • Ability to work with colleagues to help maintain the internal SHE standards within all operational functions within Northern Ireland.
  • Co-ordinate the availability of persons and facilities to ensure managers, supervisors and employees attend and complete identified Plant/H&S training in order to improve company performance as necessary.
  • To identify improvement activities and training needs and give feedback of findings to departmental managers and Group SHE Manager.
  • To advise Operational managers on compliance.
  • Monitoring staff to ensure compliance.
  • Attend and actively contribute to the Health & Safety Initiatives operated by the BPCF/MPA along with other member companies.
  • Assist the company "Appointed Persons" in reviewing and implementing all the necessary RAMS documentation in line with their third party contract requirements.
  • Line manage a team of 3 SHE Officers and coach , develop their skills and competence ensuring they maintain high standards of support to operational management teams.
  • Carry out any other reasonable request made by line manager to support departmental or company objectives

Experience and Criteria:

  • NEBOSH Certificate (as a minimum)
  • English & Maths GCSE or equivalent to Grade C or above
  • A minimum of 3 years previous experience within a construction/manufacturing environment in a similar role.
  • Good computer skills with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word & Powerpoint.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise work and manage a number of tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Have the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels including clients, contractors & consultants.
  • Demonstrate a pro-active approach.
  • Develop relevant initiatives and share best practice to improve standards, behaviours and attitudes across all operational functions within NI.
  • Demonstrate a methodical approach to solving clients requirements and requests.
  • Develop and apply safety Improvement Plans for each of the functional BU in NI.
  • Be a highly motivated individual with initiative, self-confidence, with the drive and ability to work under their own direction or within a team of professionals.
  • Confidence and strong analytical skills.
  • Be keen to develop their own individual capability and career development.
  • Hold a valid driving license.
  • Member of Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) minimum of Grad IOSH.
