L&D Specialist - Global Legal Firm


Grafton HR is delighted to be assisting with the recruitment of a L&D Specialist for a Global Law firm based in Belfast City Centre.

This will be a key role for the company, ensuring its people in Belfast and London are equipped with the skills and capabilities to perform at the highest level in a competitive and challenging business environment.


Key Duties

  • Managing the training framework for the teams in Belfast and London, with strategic support from the Learning & Development Manager based in London
  • Conducting training needs analysis across client groups and implementing appropriate development plans and interventions
  • Co-ordinating the design and delivery of practice area specific training programmes for the teams in Belfast and London
  • Co-ordinating the design and delivery of Business Services training programmes for the teams in Belfast and London
  • Co-ordination and delivery of inductions for new joiners to the teams
  • Delivering skills training, including legal writing and drafting training
  • Managing the Belfast Leadership Development Programme
  • Managing the Belfast Development Centre
  • Involvement in the design and delivery of training for the tailored engagement programme with Queens University Belfast
  • Involvement in the design and delivery of an eDiscovery Academy
  • Design and delivery of other bespoke L&D programmes
  • Providing coaching to members of the teams in Belfast and London
  • Co-ordination of other coaching services to members of the teams in Belfast and London
  • Liaising closely with the L&D team in London and international offices, in particular the Belfast liaison Learning and Development Manager based in London
  • Liaising closely with others members of the teams internationally in relation to the design and delivery of L&D training needs and programmes
  • Being a subject matter expert in regulatory requirements and the continuing competence regimes for England and Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland qualified solicitors


The Person

  • 2- 3 years' experience in a similar L&D role but will consider candidates who have more or less experience, provided they can demonstrate they have the necessary competencies outlined in this job description
  • Professional services experience (desirable) or service related industry (e.g. banking)
  • Awareness of Solicitors Regulatory Authority, Law Society of Northern and/or Law Society of Republic of Ireland continuing competence and other requirements
  • Legal/HR/Business/Psychology background
  • Experience in design and delivery of training programme and workshops
  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills (a coaching qualification is desirable)
  • Able to work with senior stakeholders to scope, design and implement training programmes and other team events
  • Experience of exploring development needs with individuals
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel to London office on a quarterly basis, for meetings with the L&D team and other key stakeholders
