Job Description

Packaging Manager

Responsibilities include:

  1. Ensure that all product conforms to the approved specification.
  2. Maximise the efficiency of all personnel and equipment at all times.
  3. Ensure that all activities are in compliance with the requirements of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice).
  4. Provide'ontheground' leadership in relation to defined operating methodologies in production:
    • Ensure sampling tests are carried out at the required frequency.
    • Verify that visual inspections (IPC) are carried out at required frequencies.
    • Monitor yields versus goals - with timely interventions as required.
    • Implement Corrective Actions where procedures have not been followed.
  1. Ensure consistent adherence to operating, quality and machine cleaning & safety procedures in production.
  2. Plan batches in accordance with customer delivery dates.
  3. Ensure regular relevant & appropriate feedback to the shift team leader.
  4. Monitor and manage Holidays, Absenteeism, Lateness, and Breaks to deliver the Production Schedule.
  5. 'Own the Training Process' - i.e. plan and identify appropriate training requirements (in conjunction with the Quality and Technical Departments) and deliver the training/development needs of all team members.
  6. Work positively with all team leaders to ensure seamless shift 'hand-over'.
  7. Ensure that quantities of good product and rejects are accurately recorded and all requested documentation for all jobs is completed in a timely manner
  8. Perform audits as needed and investigate discrepancies in relation to No.10 above.
  9. Monitor output and report outputs and recovery plans to the Plant Manager.
  10. Liaise closely with the Customer Support team to ensure excellent customer service.
  11. Direct and coordinate the operators and technical support personnel and ensure all are working to the common goal of delivering the Schedule.
  12. Manage Quality - use quality reports to feedback to individual team members and drive agreed corrective actions.
  13. Provide leadership to Team Leaders and quickly identify and train for succession planning.
  14. Ensure that cleaning logbooks, LUMAC logbooks and other production floor logs are complete and kept up to date.
  15. Provide hands on help on the production lines when required.
  16. Establish and Maintain AQL's in production.
  17. Instil a culture of Safety. Attend Health and safety meetings. Ensure safe work practices are being followed at all times, and report any defects immediately to the safety officer.
  18. Drive for a culture of Excellence in Housekeeping.
  19. Provide strategic direction to Warehouse Manager to drive best practices in the Warehouse.
  20. Ensure warehouse stock is accurate and that cycle counts are completed.
  21. Ensure the warehouse is maintained in an 'audit ready' state.
  22. Ensure warehouse staff support and drive the production schedule.
  23. Carry out various other tasks that may be required from time to time in accordance with the overall goal of the company and for which you are trained.

Person Specification:

  • Third Level Qualification in Engineering, Management or Science. Alternatively, experience in a Leadership role in a Food or Pharmaceutical company will be sufficient.
  • Experience of working in a GMP or Regulated environment is an absolute requirement
  • Proven Problem Solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • The successful candidate should display a dynamic and proactive approach to issues and tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Proven ability to communicate with multiple departments and at all levels of the company and with external parties.
  • Display good leadership qualities or skills.
  • The successful candidate should be able to develop a good Team Environment and develop and motivate their Team Members to deliver World Class performance at all times.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing including experience in the use of Lean Tools to develop continuous improvement.
  • Validation experience would be an asset for this role
  • Proficient MS Office and strong PC skills.
  • Experience in SAP or other MES systems.
