Job Description

Our Client, a Large Public Sector Organisation require a temporary Playpark/Outdoor Facilities Inspector to start ASAP.

Role: Playpark/Outdoor Facilities Inspector

Pay rate: 0-12 week's £7.50 p/h

13 week's + £8.70 p/h

Location: Coleraine

Hours of work: 37 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake risk assessments within the Estates department as directed by the Chargehand/Works Supervisor and in accordance with health and safety requirements
  • Design, implement and maintain a rolling programme of inspection of all playgrounds and play parks within the Borough. Develop and maintain an Inspection Register to record these inspections and any maintenance work undertaken within these areas
  • In accordance with the inspection programme detect faults and record vandalism to equipment in these areas. Sweep and maintain play areas and playgrounds and ensure that they are clean and tidy and free from any dangerous debris e.g. glass
  • Investigate and respond to any complaints received in relation to playgrounds and play parks in conjunction with the Chargehand/ Works Supervisor
  • Correct and fix any faults identified during the course of inspections. Ensure the safe operation, storage and security of all equipment required for maintenance duties
  • Order and maintain supplies necessary for carrying out identified maintenance work
  • Investigate all reported accidents and incidents and compile reports for the Chargehand/ Works Supervisor
  • Prepare evidence regarding claims and injuries relating to playgrounds and play areas and consult with the Council's Solicitor in conjunction with the Chargehand/ Works Supervisor in relation to legal proceedings. Appear on Council's behalf to give evidence in Court proceedings relating to these areas
  • Enforce the relevant provisions of the Litter (NI) Order 1994 and the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997 by reporting incidences of littering and dog fouling to the Chargehand/ Works Supervisor
  • Monitor road signs and erect new signs where necessary within the Borough. Record details of missing or damaged signs and advise the Chargehand/ Works Supervisor
  • Identify appropriate areas i.e. play area/bus shelters for the erection of 'No Drinking' and/or 'No Fouling' signs. Maintain and repair signage that has been vandalised
  • Monitor and investigate complaints regarding fly posting, graffiti and abandoned vehicles. Liaise with Estates Department regarding the removal of same and the issuing of seven day notices as required
  • Drive the allocated Council vehicle in a safe manner, adhering to and complying with Road Traffic Regulations provisions and The Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and any other legislation as appropriate
  • Undertake daily vehicle checks and required routine maintenance (e.g. checking oil and/or water levels, greasing). To ensure that the vehicle is washed and kept clean inside and out at all times
  • Work to management instructions, schedules/rotas and complete all relevant paperwork and collate any information as specified by management. To prioritise work, if necessary, on a daily basis within laid down guidelines
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work legislation, appropriate codes of practice and the Council's Health and safety policies and procedures. This also covers the wearing of the appropriate protective and reflective clothing, safety footwear and any other PPE; the safe lifting of heavy objects, recognising hazardous substances and ensuring the safety of the Public and other Council staff where appropriate
  • Report to management any accidents, incidents or complaints involving staff members or members of the public

Essential Criteria:

Applicants must clearly demonstrate a minimum of two years' experience in the inspection of outdoor facilities to include at least one of the following:

  • Playgrounds
  • Multi- use games areas
  • Footways
  • Street lighting

Applicants must clearly demonstrate a minimum of two years' experience in all of the following:

  • General maintenance work
  • Experience in the use of a variety of hand tools,
  • Record keeping
  • Report writing skills
  • One year's experience of using MS Excel / MS Word, MS Outlook.

Desirable Criteria:

Formal training or certificates in:

  • Playground inspections
  • Legionella inspections
