Job Description

Technical Sales Consultant

Grafton are recruiting for a Technical Sales Consultant on behalf of our client, who provides solutions for organisations in need of high quality testing and certification services within industrial sectors. You will create and respond to customer enquiries, prepare bid proposals and project costings and progress all potential opportunities through to the Test House technicians for undertaking testing.


* End to end responsibility for winning and delivery of test projects to the test team
* Support marketing activities to maximise lead generation, including attendance at trade shows, conferences etc.
* Review of initial customer enquiries, assessing technical requests and ensuring capability to meet these
* Preparation of bid proposals, including price quotations, Co-ordinate all commercial elements including Project Costing and Pricing
* Agree and sign required contracts, including purchase order co-ordination, addressing any variations from standard terms and conditions as identified
* Project scheduling within agreed customer requirements and test house capacity
* Customer communication at all stages to manage expectations and deliverables
* Work with Test House Technicians and Engineering teams to ensure sign off on client work, particularly at bid and contract stages
* Project closure, invoicing and customer feedback
* Identify and co-ordinate any export control documentation
* Management of multiple project opportunities at a time
* Provide weekly contract status updates to management team
* Travel to customer sites within the UK and internationally likely on an occasional basis

Essential Criteria:

* Technical qualification
* 2-3 years in commercial negotiation / sales environment
* Ability to demonstrate technical or Engineering knowledge, preferably in a mechanical engineering environment
* Prior experience in preparation of bids and proposals, including costing
* Experience in understanding and interpreting technical requirements
* Analytical and Problem solving approach
* Commercial acumen and negotiation skills
* Team working ability across different disciplines
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build relationships
* Full clean driving licence required

Desirable Criteria:

* Engineering degree
* 5 Years in commercial negotiation/sales environment
* Prior experience in working within the testing industry
* Knowledge of ISO 17025
* Ability to ensure that all contract management activity meets legislative and quality requirements through professional knowledge
* Foreign language skills
